A Psychology Externship Program begins September 2009 through June 2010. St. Vincent's Behavioral Health is a provider of extensive psychiatric services in southern Connecticut, with various sites located near New York City. St. Vincent's Behavioral Health Services is a service of St. Vincent’s Medical Center and a member of Ascension Health.
All externs will be placed on an inpatient and outpatient service, and a commitment of 18 hours per week is required.
Inpatient Placements are on a Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit located at St. Vincent's Medical Center Westport Campus psychiatric hospital on a beautiful campus in Westport, Connecticut (near Westchester).
Outpatient Placements are in an Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program located in Norwalk, Connecticut, immediately off of U.S. Route 1, and easily accessible by I-95 and the Merritt Parkway.
Extern Activities include provision of group psychotherapies; weekly supervision; attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and patient rounds; participation in intake & psychiatric evaluations; working with Treatment Coordinators to provide supportive individual and family psychotherapy; psychological testing; and case coordination functions.
Educational Opportunities include twice monthly Grand Rounds with presentations by Columbia University staff; Symposia on selected pertinent topics held three times a year; Seminars; Case Conferences; and Child/Adolescent Consultations.
Psychological Testing may be conducted on the Child/Adolescent Inpatient Unit and the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program. Interested applicants may also observe the process involved in Hall-Brooke’s Juvenile Justice Program located in Bridgeport, CT, which provides comprehensive evaluations of adjudicated youth.
