Lifelong Care for Children and Adults with Disabilities and Complex Medical Needs
For over 60 years, St. Vincent's Special Needs Services (SVSNS) has been a trusted provider of specialized services for children and adults with multiple developmental disabilities and complex medical needs, such as cerebral palsy, acute brain injury, neuromuscular disorders and autism spectrum disorders. Each year, more than 400 children, adults and their families receive services from the organization.
Special Needs Services: At-A-Glance
The School
An alternative private special education school, licensed by the State of Connecticut, originates from the FEROLETO Children's Development Center based in Trumbull. Children, ages 3 to 21, with significant developmental disabilities, complex medical needs, or autism spectrum disorders can receive year-round education and therapeutic services to meet their unique needs.
Adult Day Services
At the CHANGING IMAGES day program adults with developmental disabilities receive services emphasizing recreation, education, social, and vocational activities. Offered in our Stratford location, our adult day program is open 12 months a year, Monday – Friday from 8:30 am-2:30 pm.
Residential Services
Approximately 70 children and adults with complex disabilities live in one of nine SVSNS group homes located throughout Fairfield County. Each home is specifically designed and staffed to meet the unique needs and comfort of each resident.
The Family Center
Located within the FEROLETO Children’s Development Center, the Family Center provides a link to parents raising special needs children with other parents facing similar challenges. Workshops, speaker programs, a resource library, and an adaptive toy lending library are available free of charge to parents and professionals seeking support for families caring for an individual with special needs. Staff can provide referrals to community, state and national resources and can offer and obtain information to help families address a variety of concerns including education issues, transition planning, funding options, respite and accessibility.
